What’s the difference between Say and tell

To know that first let us know their definations from the dictionary
Tell:[T] to give someone facts or information about something
Say: [T] a communicate or express nonverbally, utter aloud , to pronounce a word or the chance to speak
[T] transtive: a verb that is followed by a direct object, that can be either a noun phares or clause.
In general , you say words to someone but what you tell someone is fact, informaion…etc.
SAY
TELL
I said hello
Sorry
Thank
A few words to him
We can’t use tell instead of say with these words
Tell someone a reason
The truth
Story
A joke
Only tell can be used to report commands
he told me not to stay out for a long time
Usually “ say” is used with actual words that are spoken
And if you said something for the second time you repeat it
With some kind of information “ give “ is more usual than “ tell ”.
He give me his opinion about the civil war
Tell us about Sarah
I’m here to talk about the school fair ( not tell about the school fair)
For certain saying we use special verbs
He asked “ where is my pen?”
He said “ where is my pen?”
Say here is less usual than ask
Note that “person” can not be the object of say but can be mentioned after ” to”
When the person is not mentioned and the object is a clause then use “say”
Call me to say when you’ll leave the country
With “ that clause ” and “ wh clause “ we use tell then mentione the person after “ that “
You told me that Rami won’t come due to his health problem.
Tell me why are you late?

Both verb “ say and tell “ are used with “ about “.
Tell me about your family

Let me say something about your way of talking
